FIT TIPS:

  • See "HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIZE" below to decide how you want your hat to fit and how to measure your head correctly
  • Keep in mind, hat fit is entirely a matter of personal preference. You’re the only one who can decide how you want your hat to sit, fit and how you want to wear it
  • We believe tighter fits are more suitable for those active moments in life – think long days at your favourite music festival or fun in the sun at the beach
  • For a more comfortable, extended wear (4+ hours), we recommend a looser fit that will sit lower on the head
  • The shape and style of a hat can vary the sizing and fit. We always recommend reading the size guide above for any hat you're considering. This will help to ensure you’re able to select the perfect size for you
  • Unsure of sizing? A hat filler is a great addition because it can be used to tailor the size and fit of your new Lack of Color hat (and add comfort at the same time)

CARE GUIDE

When cared for correctly, our delicate yet durable wool hats are designed to withstand the test of time. See below our tips for caring for your new Lack of Color hat:

  • We recommend storing your hat in a hat box. This will keep your hat clean and preserve its shape. Alternatively, store it on a flat surface and avoid hanging it on the wall to prolong your hat's life
  • We do not recommend getting your LOC hat wet, if you do pat it dry with a towel
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure to minimize discolouration

TO CLEAN:

  • Spot clean with a damp cloth
  • Brush lightly with lint brush or double-sided tape
  • For a softer hat, steam for 30 - 60 seconds. For further information on steaming, see the detailed instructions below
  • Use a lint roller or double-sided tape to remove any excess dirt
  • Clean wool styles with a wool brush. Some specialist dry cleaners may also be able to clean your hat for you

TO SHAPE:

Please do not apply the actual iron to the hat - the steam will be enough to soften the hat so you can mould the brim flat.

Steam the underside of the brim, flip it, lightly steam the top of the brim and then lay it on a clean, flat surface. Use your hands to push down on the brim and shape the hat to your desired shape. If you want to flatten the brim, press down on the brim and leave to dry on a flat surface.

All of our wool hats have a stiffening agent applied, to ensure that they maintain their shape. Steaming often reactivates this stiffening agent over time and can breathe new life into your hat.

Note: If you don't have a steamer, you can use the steam from an iron.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIZE:

We have a few simple tips to help you find the perfect sized hat for you. To measure your head accurately, you will need a cloth measuring tape. We also recommend you have assistance from another person, to ensure accuracy.

All Lack of Color hats are sized in centimetres, as such we recommend using a metric ruler and measuring your head in centimetres.

How would you like to wear your hat? Select from the options below. Then, follow the instructions of your preferred option to measure your head.

OPTION 1: TRADITIONAL

This is the “traditional” style of wearing a hat. Choose this option if this is the way you will choose to wear your hat

1. Place your cloth measuring tape around your head over your occipital bone (the furthest part on the back of your head)

2. Bring the measure around to the front of your head. About 5 mm above your ears and position it in the centre of your forehead, or just above the eyebrows (depending on where you want your hat to sit). Make sure the tape is sitting comfortably, this is how the hat will sit on your head

3. Check what size your measuring tape says. If in between sizing, we recommend sizing up and adding a hat filler to your order to tailor the hat to fit your head perfectly

OPTION 2: HALO

This is the “halo” style of wearing a hat. Choose this option if this is the way you will choose to wear your hat

1. Place your cloth measuring tape around your head over your occipital bone (the furthest part on the back of your head)

2. Bring the tape measure around to the front of your head. About 5 mm above your ears and position it at the top of your forehead (beginning of hairline). Make sure the tape is sitting comfortably, this is how the hat will sit on your head

3. Check what size your measuring tape says. If in between sizing, we recommend sizing up and adding a hat filler to your order to tailor the hat to fit your head perfectly.
